Before images can be annotated as figures, several steps external to mx must be taken. See Create SVG in Illustrator page for instructions on these steps.

You will have to have the original image attached as a figure to the class that you will be annotating, prior to annotation (in this case we are on the "tibial spur" class). Go to the image annotate page either through the figures tab in the image section of mx or through the figures tab on a class page; there you will see a page similar to the one at right.

Annotate page before SVG code pasted.

Find the annotation code in the SVG file (open SVG file into a text editor to see the code) and copy the entire section of code for that particular annotation: this will be all of the text starting with "<g", all of the way through the ending "</g>" (see right, top). Paste this section of text into the text field on the annotation page (see right, bottom).

After the text selection has been pasted into the text field, specify whether the annotation is a point (e.g. an arrow), a line (e.g. a measurement), an area (e.g. highlighted region) or a volume (e.g. a 3D model). For most annotations, area will be used, followed by lines and points. Once the text is filled in and the type of annotation selected, click 'save' and the annotated overlay will show up on the image (see right). If another annotation is necessary, click 'add marker' to enter another SVG code. Annotations can be edited or deleted on this page as well.
