Explanation of options (* confirmed to work "recently")

Options always available

  • generate short name for characters - Populates the character's 'short name" field by with the first 6 characters of the character name. Not typically useful for imports with long descriptive names.
  • generate otu name with datasource ID - Appends "[dsid: 123]" to the end of the imported OTU names, like "Diapria conica [dsid: 1234]"
  • *generate character name with datasource ID - As with OTU names but with character names. "Head width [dsid: 1234]"
  • match otu to db using name - Attempts to find an identically named OTU (matching the "name" field). If found that OTU is used and no new OTU is created.
  • match otu to db using matrix name - Attempts to find an identically named OTU (matching the "matrix name" field). If found that OTU is used and no new OTU is created.
  • match character to db using name - As for OTUs.

Options available if your datasource has an reference tied to it

  • *tie ref ID from datasource to new characters - Fills the ref_id field for each new character created with the reference selected for the present datasource (highly recommended).
  • *tie ref ID from datasource to new OTUs - Fills the ref_id field for each new character created with the reference selected for the present datasource (highly recommended).

If your data source is a Nexus file you'll be able to convert it to mx. If the file successfully parses you should see a screen like this:

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination
