Content types

Content types are used in combination with templates, they act as categories. For instance you might have "Etymology", "Diagnosis", and "Remarks" content types and a "Description" template which groups them. They can also be informal working notes sections, or any other category of text that you want to record for an OTU. They can be used in as many different templates as you want.

Built in content types

Mx provides a (quickly growing) number of built in content types. Content for these content types is automatically generated/summarized from data attached to an OTU. Obvious examples include material examined sections in the form of maps or KML based data. At present the following built in summaries exist:

  • Gmap - A Google map. Includes all specimens with the current determination of the given OTU.
  • Specimens - A specimen table. Includes all specimens with the current determination of the given OTU.
  • TaxonNameHeader - A header including the taxon/OTU name and author year.
  • PublicImages - All the images attached to this OTU that are checked as public.

Linking content types to matrix data

Content types are also the mechanism whereby matrix based data can be tied into the content-template/content type system. Create a content type representing the section which will contain your matrix-based data. Then create a character group, and populate it with the characters that you want to see in that section. For that character group select the content type you just created, this links a group of characters to a content type (section in your template). See also the character group help.
